Stand at each doorway and slowly photograph or record every wall. Open closets, cabinets and important drawers so the contents are visible without losing the relationship to the room.

Take a room overview, a storage-area photo and then individual photos for expensive or easily disputed items. Keep labels and serial numbers sharp and readable.
Include hidden storage
Document attic boxes, garage cabinets, outdoor storage, safes and off-property storage units. Use a human-readable path such as Garage → North Wall → Cabinet 2 → Shelf 3.
Protect the sensitive set
Do not publish photos that reveal security systems, exact valuable locations or access codes. Keep the master set encrypted and share only the records an insurer actually requests.
